About this roundtable

In recent years, the fight against disinformation has become a pressing priority, reflecting political concerns related to communication transformations. In this effort, the term “information integrity” has gained prominence. It has been used in documents from international organisations such as the UN, UNESCO and UNDP, and has been frequently invoked in the context of Brazil’s presidency of the G20. However, further discussion is needed to precise a definition and find parameters for addressing the challenges that today’s communication ecosystem poses to democratic societies. Key points for debate include the relationship between unity and flow of information, the production of trustworthy information versus its reception by the public, and the applicability of the concept of information integrity in different global contexts.

As part of the initiatives of the Internet 4 Trust Global Knowledge Network, this roundtable aims to foster dialogue between distinguished researchers and officials from international organisations. Together, panelists will explore the idea of information integrity and possible parameters for shaping public policy in the construction of a democratic digital arena. The roundtable might also serve as a Brazil T20 side-event, for the inclusive digital transformation task force.
